Most posts deal with problems users have and are asking for help. I thought that I’d report on a successful build and flight of a Tarot 650 Sport utilizing a Holybro 6C controller loaded with the latest firmware.
I decided to build a second Tarot quad (why have just one when you can have two at twice the cost?), as I had accumulated a bunch of spare parts while building/repairing my other quad. While I almost had enough to completely build a new frame I still had to order some stuff, including motors, ESCs and all other electronics. This turned out to be a challenge because I live in the U.S. and scavenging parts from domestic suppliers proved to be largely unsuccessful and I had to resort to ordering stuff from China.
Anyway, after almost two months I completed the build. I decided to mount the ESCs underneath the motors as recommended, instead of within the body, which would have required a third center plate. I bought Tarot 4114-11 KV 320 motors mated to Tarot 15” foldable propellers.
I finally had a window of opportunity weatherwise to take it out for its maiden flight. It went as well as I could have expected. Takeoff was smooth, though I had to goose the throttle more than I expected (I was used to my other Tarot which is overpowered). The motors ran smoothly and there was no indication of excessive vibration or instability. I switched to ALT-HOLD and it held its altitude but drifted a bit due to a light breeze out of the east. Aileron, Elevator, Rudder controls were all fine, responding well. I then switched to RTL - it climbed to its assigned altitude and descended smoothly with no wobble, landed and disarmed itself.
I am looking forward to flying it again as well as my other Tarot quad - I had to repair some wire insulation that was compromised via some hex bolts whose threads cut into the insulation resulting in some heat damage. Currently, the weather precludes any test flights as the temperature this morning was 7 degrees F.
