Small size ethernet breakout?

I need to connect an IP camera (SSC30KQ) to an FPV system using ethernet. The camera has a bulky ethernet adapter which also contains ethernet transformers. Is there any smaller solution available?

Appreciate I could desolder the RJ45 plug but this breakout also has USB.

Thank you

This might not be just a break out board

Yeah I think it has transformers inside the plug. I’ve searched and searched and not found a safe solution. Plan is to switch to Runcam WiFi Link which has built in ethernet components and exposed as JST plug.

What camera model is that?

it might not be available outside India since these websites usually dont ship outside india: SmartElex RJ45 Connector Breakout Board – Robocraze
you can find the same product on Robu.in. its around 50 cents in USD.

however, these modules contain no other circuitry and basically make the rj45 connector’s pins more easily usable. You board seems to have some more components, as mentioned by @Adam_Borowski so first you should check properly if those components are mandatory or optional.

Runcam Wifi Link 2 uses Sony IMX415. The camera is separate from the processor which is also useful.

@Ishitbh that is still a large RJ45 plug, which is silly on a drone.

Not 100% sure but you probably cannot go smaller than that without switching from rj45 to something else as the size of the standard rj45 is almost this.

maybe you can get some small 8pos connector and then twist the 8 wires in pairs of 2 and put some shield on it. basically the same thing as rj45 if you can use some other connector.

Re-reading your description, I think you want something like this:

Where each of the JST connector’s pins are broken out to the pins on the jack’s footprint so you can de-solder the jack and put this PCB in its place.

I don’t think such an animal exists, but it could be easily fabbed by a service like JLCPCB or PCBWay, including pick and place of the connector itself.

You might even be able to get an AI model to generate the Gerber files for it if you can be specific about the footprint of the jack.

Hi Yuri.

Ethernet needs isolating transformers. Just soldering on a JST plug will damage the ethernet chip. So it would need to be a board with the isolating transformers and JST.

That’s why you’d desolder and put this in the jack’s place, as I suggested.

Ah got it. There’s stand alone transformer modules that could be placed on a custom PCB. But I’m going with the Runcam after all. The remote camera is nicer.

You can short range connect ethernet devices point to point without transformers. You need decoupling capacitors (100nF) on all TX and RX wires and pull up resistors on both sides.

Note, you need to ditch transformers on both sides.

Is this reliable enough for FPV use?
