Siyi ZR10 Gimbal Turning Without my Command

Hello, I have recently purchased a Siyi ZR10 camera and gimbal. I set it up in accordance with the docs:
https://ardupilot.org/copter/docs/common-siyi-zr10-gimbal.html

I have it wired into the TELEM1 port of my Cube Orange Plus.

And here are my params:
copter_params.param (19.6 KB)

It is really odd, the messages that come into Mission Planner identify the Siyi Gimbal and Camera but the gimbal starts to rotate uncontrollably and I have no idea why. I tried setting to the retracted and neutral modes and it just ignored the command. It eventually seems to just get stuck in a certain position after 30 seconds then I have to restart the camera before it starts thrashing about again.

In Mission Planner the payload control numbers change rapidly too without me every touching the sliders.

I am unsure as to where I am going wrong here.

Thank you for help!

Hi @aniforatos,

I think the issue could be caused by the gimbal being mounted upside-down as compared to the regular mounting attitude. Could you try flipping it to the regular configuration?

It might be good to check the gimbal is running the latest firmware from Siyi.

Finally make sure AP is also running a recent version. It looks like maybe the vehicle is running 4.5.x or earlier? It’s not big deal but this forum is actually the 4.6 beta testing forum. So upgrading to the latest beta would be good or we can just move this topic to the stable release forum (4.5).

Thank you for the response! I am running 4.5 so I moved the topic to 4.5.

I did manage to download and install the latest firmware via Siyi instructions.

I DID have the gimbal upside-down though. I will 3D print myself a stand for it (I am not ready to mount it to my drone) and run back through my tests and report here.

@rmackay9 a semi-related question. I need to get the video down to my PC. I am looking to purchase this:

Before I purchase though I want to make sure I am not missing anything. I want to connect the air unit to the ZR10 then utilize the ground unit USB-C to connect directly up to the PC.

Does this sound like the correct course of action?

Confirmed to work properly after mounting it onto my little 3D printed test structure. Thank you!

Hi @aniforatos,

Good to hear that the ZR10 is working now.

I’ve never used the Siyi HM30 but I’m quite certain it is possible to get live video on the PC. I would expect that to be done using an ethernet connection instead of a USB-C but I’m not sure. In either case, I’m sure it’s possible somehow

Awesome thank you! Yeah I asked someone in the Discord server too. They mentioned that with the HM30 I can use the air unit to hook the Ethernet from the ZR10 to the air module, then the ground unit has the ability to connect up to a PC just fine.

If that isn’t the case I’ll report back. Delivery date is 03/17!
