SITL Realistic Simulation for my Existing RC Planes

I have finally got SITL set up and working with Ubuntu with Windows 10.

I understand enough to have custom locations and I know how to upload a custom parameter file. I would like to be able to run somewhat realistic simulations under SITL with different wind scenarios – especially with respect to battery life and range and running missions.

With regards parameters is this just a matter of extracting that subset of parameters that SITL requires and passing these when I start a SITL session?

One issue is the sheer number of these parameters. It would be great if Mission Planner would have an option to export a set of SITL parameters that could be used for SITL simulations. When I tried to simply upload my existing parameter file I did have all sorts of EKF issues and weird behavior.

Does anyone have any suggestions here?
