Hello! So I’m excited to try and get rolling with my tablet and the Iris. However I’m having a hard time finding how to get going with it. I understand all of this is in the “Beta” or “Experimental” stage still, however I was hoping to find a little more info on how to get things rolling, err flying
I’m using the new Iris, the 3dr 915MHz radio (USA) and my Nexus 7 (2nd Gen). The Andropilot users Guide
Located: github.com/geeksville/arduleade … rs%20Guide
states “Once you download the application it is quite straight forward, it installs automatically to your android tablet or phone and the application will immediately be accessible from you applications section of your device. Just press on the Andropilot Icon and it will load up.”
However, I don’t seem to get any connection to the Iris, is there some sort of paring I need to do? I’m stuck here, a frustrating thing for a Network Engineer!
@tropmonk,
Unless 3DR previously configured your 915MHz telemetry radios, I suggest that you follow these wiki instructions to configure your radios and get them talking to each other using the MP: copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/common … m-and-px4/
Once you have the ground (PC) radio talking to the air (aircraft) radio, then you should be able to connect the ground radio to your Android tablet through a USB to tablet adapter cable and that action should automatically start the Andropilot app.
I have had good success using the 3DR telemetry radios with my rover and my Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 when running Andropilot.

Having same problem
I’m using new nexus 7
915 3dr radios . the radios work perfect on my laptop, but no connection on my tablet. I’ve tried both andropilot and Droidplanner , no luck.
Installed USB host controller , status ’ Connected USB device : 6015:0403 Ftdi ft231x usb UART '
Both programs don’t recognize the radio . when initially plugged in the os recognized the adapter and asks me to choose between either planner . regardless of what one I choose , they both won’t connect To iris , yes iris is powered the radios are locked to each other, confirmed with data received in mission planner on the laptop . any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The pairing is done. Your radios were setup and tested using Mission Planner by 3DR before they shipped.
The OTG cable is not bi-directional. Although the ends appear identical, it does matter which end is connected to the radio. Make sure you have it correct,
Also, do you have a laptop available that you could use to establish the connection?
Okay, so after playing around with it a little more I figured it out. I launch the Andropilot software before plugging in the usb radio and that worked. I’m going out in the field to do some more tests and will report back.
Too bad there isn’t a more simple single location to get step by step instructions on how to get going with Andropilot with the Iris. I suspect someone (maybe even myself after I fully figure it out) may do a nice write-up on this that can be stickied here.
@tropmonk,
When I plug my 3DR telemetry radio into my Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 with the USB adapter dongle it automatically starts my Andropilot app.

I got the copter out for the first flight in a big field. I flew around with the controller and tested it all out. I was able to get a link to my Nexus 7 but I’m unfamiliar with the software and how to use it on the tablet. Most of the info I’ve found is for the windows or OSX version.
It flew well though, the props need to be balanced up proper though. I’ll get to that before next flight.
Here is a video of the first flight. youtube.com/watch?v=3T5JUUIEWNk
I was having trouble getting both android apps to connect, but that if I start the app with the radio connected, then close the app, then unplug and replug the radio, I get a prompt asking for what application I want to use. At that point I can choose one of the apps and it connects.
