Setup an old Ardupilot Mega board with F550 drone

Hi guys.
I got my hands on a very old Drone (DJI Flame Wheel F550)
I has a Arduino based controller in it. It is from DIY Drones (The Hotel 1.0)
Looks like this (APM Oilpan Rev. H, Version 1.0 now in production! - Blogs - diydrones)

It sits on a red Ardupilormega board. This is basically the setup as shown on this page:
https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Telemetry-kit-a-autopilot-ArduPilot-Mega-2560-and-GPS-Media-Tek-b-sensor-board_fig4_275885998

When I power it from the USB I can see the lights come on and the system boot up. However I have absolutely no idea where to check if it is working.

I need help with connecting the wires and programming the system since all the wires are plugged out. Not sure what is missing.

Can someone please point me in the right direction.
Here are some pictures of the controller and other boards that I have.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Doubtful. Why donโ€™t you replace the flight controller and the GPS module?

Thanks. I think it is just budget.
Got the drone for free basically.

What am I looking at price wise for a new flight controller and GPS?

if you just want it to fly on the latest suported firmware then you can get a f405 controller for under 30, if you want all the bells and whistles like lua scripting then you need an H743 controller and they are around 70-80.

And an M10 GPS module for -$20

Thanks for the reply.
So, with the F405 controller, what else do I need for it to fly?
I assume it wont have anything like GPS or anything fancy.
The drone has 6 ESCโ€™s. Will that controller support it?
Sorry for all the questions but I am not clued up with this at all.

can you solder? thats going to be the determining factor, if you cant solder then there is only a few of options with prewired connectors.

But is it difficult to configure the controller?

I can solder yes. I also need to solder the ESCโ€™s

I donโ€™t think you will get an answer to that. A much newer flight controller than that, the APM, has virtually no support because no one remembers that far back. You are in the stone age with that one.

Or are you asking about configuring a new controller? If so there is a standard procedure to follow.

Some F405 FCโ€™s have 6 outputs some donโ€™t.

a matek or speedybee f405 will probably be the easiest to get working.

what RC are you using? it might not be compatible.
