Self Centering Throttle params for vtol

Can someone assist in directing me on which params I need to set to use a self-centering throttle stick for my Argus Roc wing VTOL? All references i am finding seem to be for an older firmware. I am on 4.7.0.

This was referenced in my search but not finding it in params
PILOT_THR_BHV = 7

VTOLs run on the ArduPlane firmware. The PILOT_THR_BHV parameter does not exist there. It is an ArduCopter-specific parameter.

You probably used an AI to search. I just ran a similar search out of curiosity, and Grok, for example, comes up with the same nonsense about VTOLs and then cheerfully spouts dangerous recommendations.

Even though this is off-topic, it clearly illustrates how AI that is merely based on the internet in a non-specific way can generate problems that don’t even exist.

I’ve been flying VTOLs for more than 10 years, and for years I’ve been flying them with an RC that has a self-centering throttle.

In Q-modes, I actually find this helpful—especially when transitioning back to QHover mode, you don’t have to check whether the throttle stick is centered. To transition to fixed-wing operation, all you have to do is go full throttle.

In fixed-wing operations, the spring is somewhat of a double-edged sword in FBWA, because you have to continuously push or pull the control stick during cruise flight if the center position doesn’t happen to match the required throttle setting. In Cruise, FBWB, Auto, etc., the spring isn’t a problem.

Thanks. Do you have any additional info on how to properly set up a vtol for spring centered stick?
Any reference links or specifics?

I had the same issue when first getting into VTOL after being used to flying drones for many years.

Unfortunately my RC doesn’t have the option of changing throttle stick. (Centred by default).

The best I could do, was removing the centring spring. But throttle stick won’t stay in set position. (can easily bumped).

The setup is exactly the same, regardless of whether a center spring exists or not. In my experience, the spring is an advantage in Q modes. In fixed-wing operation, it’s a disadvantage only in non-autothrottle modes like FBWA, but an advantage in autothrottle modes. To make things easier, I’ve configured the RC transmitters (TX16s) so that I can use a rotary knob to increase or decrease the throttle output of the stick in FBWA.

My current settings for the self centering throttle stick (RC3)

Rc3 max 1950

Rc3 min 1050

Rc3 trim 1500

Rc3 dead zone 30

I have a VTOL with a self centered throttle. I didn’t do the set up for it but I’ve been looking at the params and I don’t see anything different. A couple of things to note: Mine uses rudder arming, so that will clear any mid-throttle warnings during arming since the throttle has to be down. In fixed wing modes it only has Cruise available. FBWB would also be an option. FBWA is Not a good choice with a centered throttle. Because of the payload and landing gear configuration, traditional FW landing is not an option so I can only land in Q modes.

In Q modes, mine also only allows Q-Loiter mode. In that case a centered throttle is fine.
