hey fellas!
im trying to build my first RCsailboat from the ground up and i need some advice
what else do i need to make it go, i already have Radiomaster pocket and a bunch of 21700 batteries, have some experience in making diy batteries.
what else do i need? i think it will need two motors for sails and one servo for the rudder, cam and vtx for fpv and maybe a separate autonomous system with a motor and a servo for emergencies to be able to drive the boat back to the shore
what receiver and esc should i get?
i have a little experience with soldering and setting up fpv drones but they are a bit different from this sort of thing
I would start with making the boat sail with RC control only, you need to finish the rig, sails, and hull and add sail and rudder servos. What kind of rig (mast/sails/etc) are you planning? Do you have the rudder and keel built?
Then the ardupilot electronics are pretty similar to any ardupilot vehicle: FC, GPS, compass, telemetry but with the addition of a wind vane. There are a few vane designs out there, you probably will use an analog input on the FC so figure this out before you purchase everything.
If you have a model yacht club near you and they have a rescue boat, then you don’t need a motor, and that makes things much simpler. You can add a motor later, but it is a lot of extra complexity
