Quanum Nova Flight Modes

I have a RTF Quanum Nova and it is possible that in trying to solve some problems I have inadvertently corrupted some parameters.
First, the flight modes don’t seem to get set properly by the transmitter switches. The TX has 5 possible modes and Mission Planner provides six modes. How do the 5 modes from the TX correspond to the modes in Mission Planner. If I know how they map I think that it is a simple matter to set them appropriately but I don’t think that it is straightforward;i.e, switch setting zero zero does not seem to correspond to Flight Mode 1 in MP.
Second, I don’t seem to be able to get the quad to enter calibration mode so I can calibrate the compass for specific flight sites. Is there something in MP that could have gotten set to a bad mode that interferes with entering calibration mode? It could be simple operator error but I have tried to rigorously follow the instructions. Maybe when I corrupted the flight modes I’m not coming up in the right mode to enter calibrate mode? I think that you must be in what they call manual mode to enter calibration and if my switch settings of zero zero are putting me in some other mode that may explain it.

Will appreciate any help.

I am getting a lot of views of this post but no replies so I thought I would make a suggestion. My problem could be solved if someone who has a Quanum Nova that is operating properly and hasn’t been modified from the original factory settings could just hook it up to Mission Planner and tell me how the six flight modes are programmed, including the setting of Simple Mode. A screen shot would be nice but just listing how each of the modes is programmed would be sufficient. At that point, I still wouldn’t necessarily know exactly how they map but it would at least let me get back to the starting point.

Thanks for looking at my post.

I have had a lot of views of this post but no replies. In the meantime I have been trying to understand this issue. I found that if I go into Mission Planner the mode selected by the switches is highlighted in green so I can map the switch positions to the Mission Planner flight modes. Thus I find that:

SW B SW A MP Mode MP Setting Quanum Nova Mode
0 0 4 Stabilize Manual
0 1 6 Loiter Stable (Hover)
1 1 5 Stabilize Fl Direction Locked (Simple Mode checked)
1 2 2 Alt-Hold Altitude Sensor
0 2 1 RTL One Key Rtn to Home

The mapping of the switches to the modes seems to be clear and the MP settings are the only settings that make sense to me for the desired functionality but I could still be misunderstanding something. If anyone has comments please let me know. I have attached a JPEG of the Mission Planner screen as well.

Unfortunately the quad does not go into calibrate mode when I go through the calibrate mode startup routine so I will continue to work on that but again, help or comments would be appreciated.

I hope that all of this is helpful to someone else.

Hi, the reason you haven’t been getting many replies is that this forum is sponsored by and dedicated to 3DR. There really aren’t many people here who could answer your question. A better place to ask would be on RCG, you’ll find there’s a huge Quanum thread with lots of people on it.

Rob

Thanks Rob. I recognize that 3DR is a business that is not related to Hobby King or the Quanum Nova line of products. Mission Planner and APM are, I believe, both provided by 3DR so I was looking for help here. As much as anything, I would just like to learn about APM and Mission Planner. I do appreciate the redirection though and will try your suggestion.

Thanks again,

Kent

Hello,
These are the settings i downloaded from apm as soon as i unpacked it.
i knew i was going to need them (or someone else)

It’s from Quanum nova , not the CX20.

Hope this helps…

(by the way, until i buy this quad i didn’t know the existance of ardupilot.com or 3dr, HK did a good work on MISLEADING it’s buyers… a lot of complaints about their practises… but anyway, 3dr can take advantage of this…)

Just came across this I know it’s an old thread, but I’m having the same issue. Was wondering if you ever solved this?

Hi,

Attached you will find the default parameters for the Quanum Nova Quad, just change the extension file to “param” (I used the extension txt just to upload the file the Blog does not allow to upload files with “para” extensions)

If you need an explanation of how to update the default parameters into your Quad, read the document in the following link:
