Quad dying in flight. Logs freeze

I’d appreciate any advice. I’ve just built a quad and put in a new Matek F405 wing. Its fairly large with 17” props on 6s. Ive built many drones but usually with the H743 boards or Pixhawk.

Twice now it has just died in the air, but fortunately, it was very low over corn and no damage. There is nothing I can see in the logs. There is no crash dump file. Im confident its not a main power disconnect as the cooling fans were still blowing. The batt V goes directly into the FC and from there it goes to the ESC.

When this happened for the first time i suspected it may be heat, so fitted 2 fans for the electronics area. It seemed ok for a while (but I didn’t trust it so kept it very low. There were random GYR X spikes that caused the occasional twitch. This twitch appears to have been fixed by one or all of, faster SD card, slower BDShot, slower loop rate.

Vibes are very low and under 5.

I think the FC is just dying but why?

Try it now. It also asked me to login but at the bottom was ‘download only’

What the hell is going on? Another one? This is getting more and more interesting.

I think they are different problems. Yours shows some log anomalies at the end but mine just dies. Im replacing this f405 with a spare H743 and see how it goes.

Can your pyhsical power connections.
How the fans are connected?

The 2 5v fans are powered from a 5v reg powered off the battery. I’m ripping out the F405.

Since replacing the F405 fc with a H742 I’ve had a no issues over many flights.

I’m convinced this was some sort of overload lockup, even after reducing most of the CPU stresses.

Over the last 5 years, all my builds were using Matek H743 wing FCs. This was my first change to use a F405 for I simple (if large) quad. Won’t be doing that again. It’s a shame Matek have discontinued the H743 wing for the lower spec A3. Doesn’t even have a Vsw which was great for keeping the VTX cool while ardu booted.

strange that it happened. I started out by using F405s from speedebee, and they all worked fine, except that now I need lua capability, so had to dump a bunch of them. But in terms of performance, I did not have any issues with them. Maybe you got a lemon? (hardware damaged)
