I seem to be another person having issues with the Pixhawk PX4 unit. Similar to others, I have uploaded my firmware (in my case helicopter). This works fine through Mission Planner.
On reboot, the tune ends in two low beeps, the safety switch led is blinking steadily and the I/O amber led is lit (indicating I/O error). The blue I/O heartbeat led is blinking. At no stage does the centre main LED come on. The boot log file on the SD card indicates that the I/O board can not be found.
I have tried the following:
Powered off and rebooted with safety switch pressed - no difference - same audible code
Formatted SD card and tried a different one - no difference
Loading another firmware (for planes) - same code
Disconnecting everything except switch and buzzer (no GPS and MAG) - no difference
Tried just disconnecting the MAG (12C port) - no difference
I can connect via the terminal but can not connect via the top RHS connect button (get a heartbeat error).
I suspect there is a fault with the unit but would like some more things to try before returning it.
@careyba,
How long did you hold the arming switch in after applying power? I hold it until I hear the final beep of which I believe there are 3.

TCIII GM
The two tones indicate either a) driver error at startup (not able to communicate with one of the sensors. my guess is the GPS)
or b) the I/O firmware did not update.
You should be able to see it in the bootlog on the SD card.
To see if it is the I/O firmware, listen to these tones copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/common … PX4_Sounds
And you only need to hold the safety button for a couple of seconds at power up to force the firmware update
The boot log on the SD card indicates that “No PX4IO board found”
The sounds that play are similar to the “New IO board found - restart with safety button pushed”. However, the last two tones are lower.
I have tried the re-load of the firmware using the plane then back to the chopper firmware. If it is an issue with the firmware loading, is there anything I can do to manually try and load. Using Mission Planner is obviously not working for me for some reason.
I have also tried with both the GPS connected and not connected as well as the MAG connected and not connected. I have tried different cables as well. No difference at all.
I pulled apart the safety switch and found that it was faulty (one of the contacts had slipped). After repairing, I reloaded the firmware and had the same sound again.
Pressing the switch this time before rebooting, there were a few changes.
the safety switch led is now off
The B/E led on the I/O board is flashing (bootloader mode according to the website).
The led however continues to flash and does not load. I have left it this way for 30mins and no changes.
If I reboot now, I go back to the beginning (same music tone and an I/I board error - B/E light fixed amber).
I have checked GPS cables and these seem fine. The GPS has power. I have tried two different 6 way cables and there is no difference.
Have you solve your problem ? have found a lot of people with the same problem. after giving the solution with the safty switch and that does not work are not getting any response 3dr carrier … and it sad.
my last project multicopter never worked between the problem of sync esc pixhawk now that no longer works for no reason I simply squared to have made the choice to go to the open source … damage. I’m going to spend my pixhawk collateral and resell what I will be back …
