just curious if these cubes are useful for anything other than a museum?
Bench testing, or some cheap and cheerful old quad frame for throwing around.
Nothing really wrong with them but you cannot run scripting and a lot of the new features.
I dont know why devs keep saying this as if ardupilot is useless without lua. Literally the only thing I ever use lua for is the i2c test script to see if devices are detected. I know devs think lua is some great thing but it’s a language that 99% of users have no idea how to use and have no need for.
All things considered its probably the best F4 based controller around. No, it doesn’t have the latest gen IMU’s but those end-of-lifers are still good.
Previous replies have it mostly covered. But for the cost of the carrier board that’s required to use it, you could get a much more capable complete autopilot.
You can still do lots with a Cube Black, especially if you use the build server and only compile the features you need.
Freefly still uses them. If you buy a new Alta it comes with a Cube Black (Shown in the top of the photo)
And just for fun, my museum collection
I’m jealous of your collection!!
The ones on the left are quite rare. They are all pre-production from 2014
The black one is one of about 20 first articles that we 3D printed at 3D Robotics using our own printer.
The white one is one of about 10 that we 3D printed using SLA. The other side of the case that does not see daylight is still white after 11 years.
The silver one is one of the first five metal cases that we made. It used to sit on my desk and I referred to it as a Mac Micro
Also, zoom in and see the original carrier boards used Clickmate connectors rather than the JST-GH from later production versions
