Note on GSoC 2026 Results

Good evening everyone, as you may be aware, the GSoC results for 2026 have been announced, and successful applicants have been notified of their placements. For ArduPilot this year, we had 130 proposals to review, and among those that we put forward for ranking, we were assigned three project slots by Google.

I want to say thank you to everyone who posted here and applied for their interest, and especially thanks to those of you who put in strong proposals that made our final decision-making difficult! It was also very nice to see many of you take the time to review others’ questions and comment, and we are especially grateful to those who were brave enough to publicly share progress with their prototypes. It’s really cool to see!!! I especially invite those of you who were working this way to please keep going, and to try again in a future year with GSoC and ArduPilot.

I understand that not getting accepted is disappointing, especially if you did all the right stuff. That said, the whole point of GSoC is to attract more people to contribute to open-source projects, and even just by sharing your work and checking out others’ work, you are contributing to that pursuit. So, thank you for trying it out. Please do stay in the fold, and find ways to develop with ArduPilot and share your work. These days especially, there are many more ways to do this than simple code contributions :slightly_smiling_face: We are always eager to see folks share their own projects, help out with code review, provide comments, or even just hang around and discuss ArduPilot and autonomous systems more generally!

In the coming days, once they’ve got their bearings and have accepted the offer from Google, our three GSoC 2026 mentees will start their work by sharing a blog post that outlines their project direction. Please stay tuned!

I’ve truly enjoyed the journey over the past few months and am committed to maintaining this level of dedication in my future work. While the project I developed might be shelved for now, the experience itself was invaluable. I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who provided feedback and corrections on my posts—your guidance helped me produce work I’m truly proud of. Thank you all for the support, and I look forward to seeing everyone in the community again for GSoC 2027!
