Hey folks, I am new to this hobby but my goal is to build my first aircraft. I am building a parts list and want to fly it by the more knowledgeable of you. I will be using Mission Planner. I have chosen the Matek F405 as my FC, HGLRC GPS module, and a Skywalker 30A V2. Now for communication it is my current understanding that I can either drop the cash now and get a TX RX combo that has built in telemetry (CRSF protocol?) or get a more traditional (and cheaper) pair that uses SBUS and drop in something like a Sik telemetry radio later to communicate to my ground station. I am also seeing stuff on using LoRa for telemetry. I would like to optimize range for this project, can anyone explain to me the pros/cons to either or maybe something fundamental I am misunderstanding? Also I am seeing information on MavLink, is that a different protocol or just a communication between RX and FC? Thank you!
ExpressLRS is a popular protocol. Some detail here that inlcudes some content on Mavlink:
CRSF & ELRS
Radiomaster makes nice hardware. You want range, use a 1W transmitter module.
