"No Terrain Data" warning - verbal warning from Yaapu

Conducting an autotune flight this week, Yaapu gave repeated warnings about “no terrain data” as the copter performed the autotune twitches. It seemed like about one warning ever 30 seconds.

I tried to find these messages in the log files - but could not find it. I used both MavProxy and UAV Log Viewer - neither showed these messages.

Is there another way to view such warnings?

This copter had the TERRAIN_ENABLE parameter set to “1” - for enabled. However my test field is away from my workshop, so with no internet connection, the copter was unable to load terrain data.

I’ll have to test it, but I assume that if I set TERRAIN_ENABLE to “0” that the warning might go away.

But that wouldn’t be ideal for the mission of this copter - it would be better to simply disable that warning.

I don’t know what’s possible - and would appreciate any advice and comments. Thanks!

You can preload terrain data both onto SD and Mission Planner.

Easiest is to just upload a mission for that location when you have internet access. Just one waypoint will do it, even if you never plan to fly it. That will automatically upload the terrain data. And once it’s there you never need to do it again unless you clear the SD card.

I understand. Unfortunately these copters are destined for the STEM market - where simplicity is most important.

It would be best to just avoid the warning messages.

Setting TERRAIN_ENABLE,0 will indeed solve the problem.

The warning is pretty clear, there is no terrain data. So either turn off terrain or load data.
