Need help configuring my drone

I bought a kit 4 months ago and just got it assembled and powered. Now I can’t get the motors to turn when doing motor test. I had the ESCs plugged into the Main pins on the Pixhawk 2.4.8 FC but after searching for hours, I found, hidden very cleverly, where it says D-Shot ESCs get plugged into the AUX pins. So now I don’t know how to set up the aux channels to work the motors. I really need help or I’m going to chuck the entire thing in the garbage.
I am not an electronics expert and I cannot code worth a darn, I need someone who can stick with me and help me set the parameters to get it flying.
I have tried to follow many tutorials but they all miss the mark.
I have the PIXHAWK 2.4.8 fc

Connect the ESC’s to the 1st 4 Aux outputs, these are channels 9-12. Then assign motors 1-4 to those channels by setting the SERVOx_FUNCTION parameters. x being 9-12.

Or give up and chuck the entire thing in the garbage.
