When switching from FBWA to thermal soaring (LOITER/THERMAL mode?),
the model should circle, descending in downdrafts and climbing in updrafts
(climbing, if possible, as in SOAR mode).
The motor should always remain switched off in this mode!
Is this achievable with the FW WING 4-6-3, and if so, how?
…holding altitude at the altitude that you entered loiter in.
Apparently, the LOITER mode can only be used effectively for thermal sailing if “TROTTLE” (SERVOx_FUNKTION) is removed and the motor is activated exclusively via the “RCINx”
switching channel.
However, this means disabling “ARMIN” and other monitoring functions. I don’t see any other solution.
You may be able to use the motor emergency stop aux function to cut the motor completely and re-enable it without resorting to arm/disarm. That’s my first intuition, but I will admit that I don’t use automated sailplanes/gliders, so my expertise is limited for your use case.
Thanks Yuri for the tip, I had already thought of that, But according to the documentation “https://ardupilot.org/plane/docs/arming-your-plane.html” deactivating the engine in flight
is not possible! I tested this in flight.
Recent test flights have shown that the software wasn’t specifically designed for model glider pilots. With a few very minor program enhancements, ARDUPILOT would be a fantastic autopilot for us users.
Well done, the “DO_LAND_START” function is excellent. Automatic landings work flawlessly, provided you start the function manually at the correct altitude.
