Mode control without RC system?

Hi

Is there anyway to switch the operation modes (Auto, manual,…e.t.c) without using an RC system?

Missionplanner, APM planner, Droidplanner and Andropilot can do that if you have telemetry.

So you mean that I can permenetly set Auto mode using mission planer ?
I don’t plan on remote controlling the rover, I only need it to follow waypoint in auto mode.

no, there is no such thing as set it permanently. (I didn’t see that wish)
I am no specialist on rover, but you could at least set failsafe value for the channel on RX, and when TX is off, it would go to auto.

What type of inputs does the apm accept,PPM or PWM?

both - you can also use mavlink to set mode

OK, now that I know that I can control the APM with pwm signals can you tell me how many channels are needed for full control ?
I presume that one channel is needed for mode control ? What about steering, turn left-right, go forward backward, learning waypoints, erasing waypoint…e.t.c ?
I want to control the APM using an arduino.

no amount of RC channels will set waypints, unless you program your own data modulation over PWM.
2 channels + 1 for modes.
or…waypoints and everything else over mavling.

So let me get this straight,
1 Channel for mode selection
1 channel for throttle
1 channel for steering
1 channel for waypoint recording

Can anyone please explain the flight modes that are rover specific ?
I see in mission planer that there are 7 types of flight modes but only 6 flight mode boxes. Also the last box (fligh mode 6" cannot be alterd and is set to manual).

Are the flight modes
RTL, GUIDE, HOLD,STEERING available for the rover ?
If yes then what do they do ?

P.S How can I edit my post, I don’t see an edit button anyware, only delete and report.
