Hello Good People,
I’ve been working on a long-range VTOL plane for several months and I’m very grateful to those who have helped me through this forum to achieve my first flight. I’ve been testing my model for the past month and have some data and questions to share.
My Plane Setup:
- Airframe: Custom Build Composite Airframe
- AUW: 4 kg
- Cruise Speed: 18 m/s
- VTOL Configuration: Y3 Vectored VTOL with front two motors tilting (Nimbus VTOL Configuration)
- Propulsion System:
- Front Two Motors: Tarot 3515/400KV with 15x5 propellers
- Rear Motor: Tarot 4114/320KV with 15x5 propeller
- Battery: CBS-Samsung 50S 22.2V 10Ah 9C Li-Ion Battery
With this setup, I can’t get more than 10 minutes of flight time, including VTOL takeoff, transition cruise, and VTOL landing.
My model consumes more than 24 A during the cruise phase, which restricts my flight time . This is quite demotivating, and I’m considering investing in a new propulsion system with higher pitch propellers to increase my flight time.
I’m unsure about selecting motors. I’m considering T motors, but there are two variants: AT and MN series. My plane uses VTOL motors for cruise flight, and I’m confused about whether to choose the lower KV MN series motor with lower pitch propellers for VTOL efficiency or the higher KV AT series motor with high pitch propellers for cruise efficiency.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
