Yes, ANDRUAV can let you use a phone’s GPS receiver for a vehicle, but I wouldn’t recommend using it as a primary GPS.

I agree,…wouldn’t recommend it.
There are various reasons:

  • Update speed of GPS unit → In aircraft it is rather important to have a fast updating GPS receiver as aircraft can cover a large area / distance in a short time.
  • Signal quality linked to a good antenna → There is a good reason regular GPS units have a certain size in order to receive a strong signal. (GPS signal is very low in signal strength → easy to miss or being affected by interference)
  • Positioning during usage → An aircraft can fly at steep angles and in rotor aircraft also suddenly change direction. This can easily lead to signal loss - hence previous remark is valid for this point as well. (Whilst in a smartphone the assumption is that phone is facing up during regular usage)
