IMU temperature calibration using AMC

Currently, I Put my Kakute H7 into freezer at -22°C, for around an hour and now when I powered it, it’s green led is always on and Red and Blue are blinking together.

At this point, It’s connected to my laptop with USB, (glued firmly to the table so it does not moves) But the AMC is not open.

Is it safe to open AMC now in this stage? Or should I let it remain powered up only?

As for uploading parameters, I deleted all the parameters with “N/A” written.

I did so in this:

And uploaded all non-N/A parameters.

No need to open AMC, the data is being collected by the FC. AMC has nothing to do at this stage.
And… the AMC documentation does not tell you to open it. Why do you want to open it?

But the AMC documentation does tell us to keep a watch on that some kind of “ENABLE” parameter, which will become 1 from previously 2, when done?

“monitor the INS_TCALn_ENABLE parameters. On completion, the INS_TCALn_ENABLE parameters will change to 1 (enable) for each calibrated IMU.”

From the AMC guide

  1. If you have a buzzer connected, you will hear a short periodic beep while the calibration is in progress. When the calibration is complete, a completion tune will play. If you have notification LEDs on your flight controller they will cyclically flash red, blue and green while calibrating. If you do not have a buzzer connected nor notification LEDs, monitor the INS_TCALn_ENABLE parameters. On completion, the INS_TCALn_ENABLE parameters will change to 1 (enable) for each calibrated IMU.

Yes, if you do not have a buzzer connected, and have no LEDs, and have no notification LEDs, and have no patience to wait 2 hours… then you can use MP to monitor the INS_TCALn_ENABLE parameter changes.

I will change the documentation to be clear that MP is to be used in order to monitor that particular parameter change. Thanks for the feedback.

I find it helpful to monitor IMU Temp(s) while it’s running. Then you have some idea when it will complete. Mission Planner Data Screen, check the Tune box and select the IMU temp fields. The Messages Screen also tells you what’s going on and when it completes.

@dkemxr do you mind doing a PR to add that information to the tuning guide?

OK. I’ll run one of the bench FC’s to collect some sample screen shots.

Thanks, that would be great!

As for the messages screen, I am seeing no new data coming related to this ongoing temperature calibration, but when I checked the tuning box, this opened up, and I don’t see any “What is the current temperature?” Fields here?

The messages screen just says this:

Before posting a question at least make some attempt to figure this out on your own using available resources.
Like going here Mission Planner Flight Data Screen and read the entire entry.

Obviously because Temp Cal is not running.

WHHOOA!?

What? How!? I uploaded the parameters and then put the Kakute in freezer and then I immediately powered on the Kakute after it!?

From last 2 hours my Kakute is connected to PC and powered on!?

It’s Green led is always on and both red and blue are blinking simultaneously in regular intervals - which is not normal behaviour. That means calibration is running :face_with_spiral_eyes::exploding_head:

I followed the documentation exactly :100:

I doubt that. If so you would see this:

So, go back and start over and figure out what you did wrong.
This really doesn’t have to be another weeks long post thread about details of the process which is clearly documented. Just figure it out.

I just happen to have a cube in the freezer right now. Let me know if you want any screen shots.

Alright! I just configured this Cube up quickly to grab that screen shot but one from a real run would be better. One running and when it completes to show the messages would be great.

The things I did differently were all told my Amilcar Sir only. I deleted all the “N/A” parameters and then uploaded the Temp cal file.

Did i did wrong by doing this @dkemxr sir?

I just put it in the freezer and then sat down at my computer and read this post, so give me a couple hours to let it chill and then work the magic. I’ll grab a bunch of screen shots and DM them to you.

Thank you Allister!

If you’re using AMC you shouldn’t need to delete anything. Just run step 2 and it will get it all set up for you.
