GSoC 2026 Aspirant: Software Engineering Student interested in MAVLink & Avoidance

Hi ArduPilot Community,

My name is Osman, a 2nd-year Software Engineering student from Turkey. I have been following the ArduPilot project with great interest and utilizing it in my university projects.

Currently, I am developing an Air Defense System project for a national UAV competition (Teknofest), where I implement A pathfinding algorithms* and utilize MAVLink with Python for autonomous mission control.

I am writing to express my strong interest in contributing to ArduPilot as a Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 student. I have successfully set up my development environment and SITL simulation. Since Discord access is currently restricted in my region, I wanted to reach out via the forum to introduce myself.

I am reviewing the Ideas List and looking for “Good First Issues” related to MAVProxy, Scripting, or Simulation improvements to start contributing. I would appreciate any guidance on active tasks suitable for a newcomer with my background.

Best regards, Osman Alanda https://www.linkedin.com/in/osman-alanda-96946933b/

Hi @Osman_Alanda , take a stab at one of the projects ideas here or work on your own if you can think of one!
