Flight Controller Recommendation for Camera Drone

Hello,

I am building a quadcopter using Holybro X500 V2 Frame, my sole aim is to build the drone for 4K video recording using SIYI A8 Mini 4K Gimbal Camera and transmission using SIYI MK15 Radio Receiver in tight budget.

For this purpose, can anyone suggest me the which flight controller I should use. I have previously used CUAV X7 Plus, Cube Orange Plus, SIYI N7. Please let me know if i only have to go with STM32H7 or STM32F7.

Thanks in advance!

you can use cuav v5+ or v5 nano

I am using a Holybro Pixhawk6C controller which works fine for me. However, you will need a 10 pin M9N GPS/compass and Holybro SIK V3 telemetry radio - both devices have the compatible connectors to the 6C.

I don’t know where you’re located but if you’re in America, be extra careful ordering stuff online as you may be subject to horrendous tariffs.

hi @FossilRider

Whenever I build a drone, I get high vibration and clipping in the log, Do you get high vibration in the log? also can you share me the best method to install the Flight Control on the frame.

Vibration is within tolerable limits, but video was crappy using an old GoPro Hero 4 camera. I am now using a GoPro Hero 11 with great internal stabilization. Check out my most recent aerial video Click here.

As for how I mounted my Holybro 6C controller, I used a conventional APM shock mount but I raised it using 1/4” nylon spacers in order to provide room underneath where I mounted the landing gear controller. I took a picture to show you but the site is complaining that the file is too big. Shoot me your email address and I will send the pic to you.

Hi @FossilRider

Thanks for reply, The footage I get is not shaky at all, but I get high vibration & clip sometimes reaching even 3000-4000 and messages comes like “vibration compensation is turned on” I tried mounting the CUAV X7 Plus flight controller according to the Ardupilot document which states that FC should be mounted by adding four small squared 3M Foam tapes around the corners of FC. I did that but still the Z vibration reaches 80-90 m/s/s. I don’t know what i am doing wrong here as I am using the tried and tested frame “Holybro X500 V2”.

Please let me know with possible solution.

Thanks for help.

Except for very large rotorcraft and ones with piston based internal combustion engine flight controllers with internal vibrations isolation should be hard mounted to the frame. When soft mounting FC care should be taken so that wiring doesn’t transmit vibrations to the flight controller. Soft mounting internally vibration isolated FCs should be avoided (ex. Cube Orange is sold in reduced isolation version (IB))

That’s quite a lot of vibrations, way too much for safe flying. I would suspect something not being tight enough or resonance. Try flying with the gimbal mount removed to check if it is caused by it. Also check for too high PIDs.
