Failed autotune

I tried to do an Autotune on my Arris m900 using a Pixhawk 6c. It had been flying pretty well before I tried the autotune so I thought a autotune would help it fly even better. I setup Alt hold on a flight mode switch and then setup channel 10 for Autotune. I took off, put it in a moderate hover, put it in Alt hold, and then tried the autotune switch. Things went really wonky really fast. I know it’s supposed to tip side to side but this was gyrating badly. I thought it was going to crash. I was able to disarm it when it was about a foot off the ground. Any ideas as to what would cause it to do that?

Define this exactly, please. From the rest of the post it is safe to assume your definition of pretty well is very different from ours.

Did you performed all the steps in the documentation that are required to be done before flipping the switch to activate autotune?

I don’t do anything too involved with it as I use it for training my falcons. All I’ve done with it is take off in stabilized mode, switch to Position Hold, have it carry a lure up to desired altitude and distance from me, always in line of sight. Then after my falcon grabs the bait I have the drone return to launch. Pretty easy stuff. In all that it flies stable and goes where I direct it. I guess that’s what I meant by it flies pretty well.

Nice use case.

I hope the answer above points you in the right direction. Using AMC is a lot simpler than manually doing all the steps
