Hi guys a couple of days ago a friend of mine told me that he wants to adapt the ardupilot firmware onto an old DJI S1000 frame, has anyone here done it? Is it feasible?
What hardware would you recommend to do this?
I am aiming to use HD FPV video capability…

The frame itself is pretty basic, the ESCs have a fixed range standard PWM input so dont try and calibrate them or use any kind of Dshot, i think its 1000-2000us but you will need to check the manual, also ardupilot motor numbers are not the same as DJI motor numbers so be careful how you set them up.
The landing gear is just a servo channel, you can have ardupilot work them automatically.
The main weakness with them was flight time, with a heavy camera and gimbal it would struggle to get 20 minutes with a 20ah 6s battery. but if you needed to fly a heavy camera like a panasonic GH4 on a gremsy gimbal there were few frames that could match it.
that should work fine.
