Converting the USB Ground Module to an Air Module

I have a growing collection of USB Ground Modules, but I am short on Air Modules. What do I need to do to metamorphisize the Ground Mod so it can take flight? Can I simply bypass the USB plug and solder wires directly to the pins behind the USB plug? Or is there an exta logic chip that converts to USB protocol? Can this be bypassed?
Sorry that this isn’t really a support question, I will take it elsewhere if deemed inappropriate for this forum.

Thanks for the thread. I successfully converted my Ground Module to an Air Module and posted some images on that DIYDrones thread.
