With so many compass problems floating around I was thinking in possible solutions by replacing the old 5883 or 5983 by newer and better compasses.
So is there support now in arducopter for MPU9250 Magnetometer for example?
Is there any option different from legacy Honeywell that is already supported in code?
Yes, MPU9250 is supported and works as the PixRacer has this unit on it. Although from what I read so far this chip is not as good as the 5983 is.

Yes currently one of the best compass around there is HMC5983. We as Dev’s are looking new alternative compasses but there are nothing better on this price range. There are some others available but price range is way too expensive as quickly we start to talk of hundreds of dollars.
