AV immediately disarms due to RC Failsafe when attempting to launch in Guided Mode

Good afternoon,
I am investigating RC failsafe behavior. I have Set FS_Options to 15, so
” Continue if i auto on RC failsafe”
” Continue if in auto mode on ground control station failsafe”
” Continue if in guided on RC failsafe” and
” Continue if in landing on any failsafe”

FS_THR_enable is set to 1.
When i attempt to launch in guided mode, with my RC transmitter disabled, the motors arm, and them immediately disarm. the log messages show that the AV is getting errors.
Err: FAILSAFE-RADIO-1 and FAILSAFE-RADIO-0 repeatedly throughout the log,
ERR: RADIO-2

messages read radio Failsafe - disarmed, radio failsafe cleared … over and over.

I tested the failsafe behavior in simulation and in the air, and it all worked as expected. but for some reason it isn’t allowed to launch without an RC transmitter connected. can anyone help explain this?

oddly in SITL i cannot re-create this behavior, the sim AV launched when i command takeoff regardless of the RC failsafe triggered. (SIM_RC_FAIL = 1)
Arducopter 4.3.0

You shouldn’t be getting erratic throttle failsafe unless you have done something stupid with configuration or your RC is doing something stupid.

Start by updating to 4.6.3. it may have been already fixed.

With few exceptions you shouldn’t be operating without some sort of RC control connected to the system, either RC radio (preferable) or joystick connected to the GCS.

Unfortunately i cannot update. I have a companion computer aboard the AV which controls it in guided mode. I want to enable RTL as a failsafe response to hand control unit lost link in manual modes, while retaining the ability to launch and fly in guided/auto mode without the hand control. any ideas?

Post the configuration otherwise we can not guess what is wrong.

What is AV?? I wonder.

I guess “Areal vehicle”, right @drosdickjames?
