Auto-takeoff and ground steering

The Ground Steering parameters are discussed in the AP documentation associated with the Auto-takeoff section. Maybe I didn’t read it carefully enough, but is Ground Steering linked to Auto-Takeoff mode, or can it be set up to run independently?

Its active in most fixed wing modes (not manual, acro or training). If you have a dedicated steering servo output setup it is output to that all the time. If you do not then the rudder output is driven from ground steering when under GROUND_STEER_ALT (if setup) and there is no pilot roll input.

Thanks for clarifying that! My application is I have a steerable launch cart for launching gliders, and the cart has its own receiver and servo (with both plane and cart receivers bound to my radio). The steering of the cart is controlled by the rudder output. It would be nice to have the cart track straight without my feeding in rudder manually. I don’t quite know how to set up the cart receiver/servo as a separate output.

If you have a separate servo on the cart your primary challenge will be connecting and disconnecting the cart steering servo during takeoff as it needs good connection during the takeoff roll and clean separation without excessive force.

His cart is independent from the plane by a seperate receiver and servo. So no electrical connection need to be seperated.

If Ardupilot is to be in control of the cart there needs to be a connection.

yes, if ardupilot of the plane is in control but in that case no seperate receiver on the cart is needed
or
no, if the cart also have a ardupilot FC

The cart has an ELRS receiver, servo, and its own battery. My plane has its own ELRS receiver, etc. My TX16S radio binds to both receivers at the same time, and I have the cart receiver assigned to Channels 09-12 in EdgeTx. So there is no need for a hard connection to the cart; It is independent except for the FC sending rudder output to it on CH 09.
