[APPROVED] DJI O4 FPV Setup

Topic:

DJI O4 is out and is likely to be broadly adopted by FPV pilots due to the high quality and range. Unfortunately it is not supported by older goggles. I would like to therefore to get a setup for testing against AP.

Proposal type: Hardware , Software , Other : _________________

Description:

  • DJI O4 Air Unit Pro
  • DJI Goggles 3

Planned amount $$ (USD): $961

Estimated time for completion: 2 months

They do work with the goggles 2 FYI. What exactly are you testing, do you care to share?

Goggles 2, yes - but not Goggles V2, which is what I have (old!) - at least according to the docs.

Not sure what I am going to test yet. Might just sub my whoop O3 setup and compare.

So there is nothing ardu specific you’d like to test? I am struggling then to wrap my head around how this was a useful purchase given you have provided absolutely zero information on how this would benefit the overall ardu project. Almost 1000 dollars seems a bit of a waste given it will in its current state not benefit anyone other than the purchaser. There are plenty of compare and contrast the O3 vs. O4 out there I see no reason why another one would be of benefit to the project.

There’s already a report of things not working properly. Will obviously test it.

Hi @406FPV ,

I’m 2 days trying to figureout why my O4+G3 is not having OSD, and the same setup with O3 is working properly, so there is anything inside the O4 that’s not equal to the O3, so I believe this acquistion is necessary

Hopefully I will set this up this week.

I tested this and for the most part it works. I simply swapped out O3 and plugged in O4. There are some minor font issues which I also see with the O3 that I need to investigate. Are you sure you have OSD_TYPE set correctly?

Hi @andyp1per ,

I have everything working - the problem was with something with the camera cable
thanks

sure glad you figured this hard one out. lots of ppl have really benefited from this. great job guys thanks!!

I cant get OSD on 04 with Goggles 3 to work. tried type 3 and 5, also serial 33 and 42 respectively.
i am using 4.4.2

Any help please?

You need to set OSD_TYPE2 to 5 and use serial protocol 42.

Hi Andy,
I have tried OSD_TYPE 5 and SERIAL_2 42
with no luck. i use UART 2.
I use 4.4.2
any other thoughts?

Ahhhhh… i will try OSD_TYPE2 setting.
never noticed that before!!

Hi Andy, That was the ticket! Thank you.

A bit of the text is garbled up, which others post as well. is there a setting that clears this up?

If you mean the strange characters - no, no solution to that - I am going to investigate when I have a chance. I am also seeing only one digit of the voltage top right - do you see that?

Yes sir. same here.
Question mark in the artificial horizon, etc.

Try MSP_OPTIONS=4 this uses Betaflight fonts which seems to work a lot better for me.

MSP_OPTIONS=4 did indeed make things better. Thank you again Andy.

Hi guys,

I saw something related to Inav native characters with the lastest Inav and DJI updates, anyone knows more about it ? Can something equals done with ardupilot and the question marks ?
