APM 2.6 not working with Futaba R7008sb

I have a Futaba 14sg transmitter and a Futaba R7008sb receiver that I’m trying to get to work with my new arducopter that has apm 2.6. I’m not using the S.Bus link, rather I’m using the apm supplied 5-wire connector to connect channels 1-5 on the apm to channels 1-5 on the R7008. When I connect to USB and load up mission planner, I’m unable to calibrate my transmitter. My transmitter is linked to my receiver and the receiver is set to mode A. I have a green light on the receiver indicating a good connection to the transmitter but the apm has a rapidly flashing orange light and the apm radio calibration doesn’t see my transmitter at all.

Also, I happened upon the communications link widget (newbie, obviously) and noticed that I’m also getting a
Dataflash init error."

Does anyone have any info on what I could be doing incorrectly?

Are you sure your cable are inserted correctly with signal down. Can you provide a photo?

No, not sure what you mean by “with the signal down?”

Here is what is happening now:

  1. Connect USB cable
  2. APM lights up and orange light begins constantly flickering.
  3. Mission Planner initial setup:
    a. Wizard now connects to the APM, installs the firmware, and downloads the parameters.
    b. Next screen - calibrate accelerometer. Wizard tells me to place copter level and press any key. I use my mouse to hit continue and nothing happens. Hit a key and nothing happens. Hit next and nothing happens.

I’ve used both the Mac version of AP and the windows (via parallels) version of Mission Planner with the same result. I know that computer can see the APM because it is downloading the firmware via com3.

@kddean66,
In the last picture you appear to have a connector with a red and a black wire across output pins 7&8?
Do you have connector J1 installed or removed?
How are you powering the APM when you are not using the USB port?
Are you trying to use the USB port and power the AMP through the Output Power Bus rail at the same time?

Yes, the red and black are connected as you noticed. That is the red and black lead from the distribution board. There was nothing in the instructions that shipped with the copter that told me where to connect those wires, but it appeared that they were connected as you see in the picture sent in the instructions. Are those actually supposed to go to JP1?

The red and black cable are from a BEC of one of the ESC’s connected to the PDB. It’s an optional connection to power the output rail, the red goes to the + middle pin and the black goes to the - on the bottom pin, and since you are using the power module, don’t use the JP1 jumper.

Could you share a picture of this error?

Not sure what happened yesterday but I’m not getting the data flash error anymore. Thanks everyone for helping!

I am still having the issue with not being able to calibrate the apm however.
