Hi everyone,
I’d appreciate a second opinion on the attached log. The vehicle behaves well in pure VTOL (QLOITER, QSTABILIZE, etc.), but the back-transition QRTL Airbrake is aggressive and borderline unsafe: strong pitch oscillations appear, and I also see oscillations on the vertical motor channels while AIRBRAKE is active.
Vertical tune looks good in Q modes (no oscillations in hover/accelerations when flying pure vertical). Only the airbrake is problematic. I know that I can lower deceleration but I have Q_TRANS_DECEL = 1.2, which yields ~250 m stopping distance already.
In SITL Realflight model, increasing Q_A_INPUT_TC from 0.2 → 0.3 noticeably damps the oscillations during AIRBRAKE, with acceptable feel in Q modes. I haven’t flown this change yet. I’d like to have an advice on this before trying it.
Would bumping Q_A_INPUT_TC be a reasonable mitigation for AIRBRAKE-induced pitch oscillations?
Is there any other solution ?
Here is the log : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IS_O1ZAMWy_yPRp26WjOzCcmDEuR1cvl/view?usp=sharing
On this log we can see the messy airbrake. It’s much cleaner after ‘VTOL Position 2’ is reached…
Many thanks !
