3DR Telemetry and Basic Serial Modules

I don’t know if this will get any hits but does anyone know if you can use the V2 telemetry modules as basic serial communication modules? I’m thinking of using some on some Arduinos or other microcontrollers when I’m not using them my APM stuff.
