APM 2.0
Can’t seem to find answers to these 2 questions but probably easy to sort.
Can I get the APM to operate a servo at a particular waypoint? How?
Is there a way of getting the plane to automatically RTH and loiter there when the battery reaches a predetermined voltage?
Loving playing around with this. Done a few 7 mile flights with the SkyEye and had it up to 1500 feet with no issues.
You’re assuming they’re from a country governed by CAA rules and regs.
Either way though, CAA regs do NOT state a 400 foot limit unless you’re UAV is 7kg or heavier.
If you read the ANO along with the FPV exemption, you will find in the UK with a sub 7kg UAV you can go as far out and as high up as you like as long as you can still safely see the craft at that distance. The exception being FPV (goggles not monitor) where it’s your spotter that needs to be able to see it, UAV is under 3.5KG and you have a 1000 foot ceiling.
Wow! Just read 166 & 167 as I have done a few times before but FAILED to notice the significance of the 7kg rule… (not sure about the 1000ft ceiling though) A little embarrassed and thanks for pointing that out.
Your also right, I wrongly assumed that this occurred in the UK.
However, surely there has to be a sensible approach to flying wherever you fly? Unless your in the middle of the Nevada desert, there is no way in the world that you could ever safely fly at those distances, unless you have access to some ‘military’ radar!
You can guarantee that the next drone incident, wherever it occurs, will be all over the news and yet again, we will be under public scrutiny for careless drone pilots who push the envelope too far.
If it’s any use to anyone in the UK, I wrote this list out and keep it with me when flying -
General rules
Don’t fly like an idiot, or endanger any person, property or other aircraft.
Flight must be safely doable.
The vehicle must always be flown in line of the unaided sight of the pilot.
When flying with a recording camera
No flying within 150mtr of a congested area or organised gathering of more than 1000 people.
No flying within 50mtr of a person or property UNLESS you own, have control of or have permission of the people/person/owner to do so.
Craft must weigh less than 3.5kg.
When flying with FPV goggles
No flying within around 2-2.5miles of an airport without permission (notaminfo.com/ukmap shows the airspace area).
Must have a competent observer who has to maintain direct unaided site on the craft and knows what’s going on.
no going over 1000ft (304.8mtr) above GROUND level.
Unless you have a CAA license
no getting paid for doing it.
This is a condensed version but I also have Part 19 section’s 137 & 138 and Part 22 section’s 166 & 167 from the ANO with them in full and the FPV exemption that can be found at - caa.co.uk/docs/33/1108.pdf
Just for clarity, the distance limits in numbers 4) and 5) apply at any height, they don’t mean you can fly 50/150mtr over someone/something.
I totally agree that with more people flying like idiots trying to get closeups of 747’s landing there is going to be a big problem in the UK. That’s one reason I’m more than happy to help/correct/inform any one I fly with of the actual rules and not what there best mates, cousin’s, half sister’s dog has told them are the rules.
Couple of week’s ago I sent my quad up to 1007ft, totally legally as I had about 8 people staring at it. I was using a monitor and a couple of others were using goggles for an onboard view.
