Spinning while in AUTO mode - declination?

I’m using APM 3.2.1 and have my magnetic declination set to ~13 degrees. The craft was flying fine.
I traveled to another country and attempted to do an AUTO flight there. The magnetic declination in the foreign country is ~5 degrees.

Although the craft made it home, it was flying sideways most of the time and spun like a top while going up and down.

Would a declination error of 8 degrees cause such erratic behavior?

Did you do a compass calibration in the new country before your flight?

A log from the copter would help.
