GPS stop when I move to another city

Hi Every one,

I have notice twice that when I move from my Location to another city, the GPS stop to work. It seems that when I tunr the autopilot On the GPS start tracking for a short time and them stops. My impression is that the HK32pilot, send a message to the GPS to make it stop. Last time I disconnect the TX wire from the serial between the GPS and the HK32Pilot and after that the GPS worked fine. I used the Boat without the TX wire and every thing seems to work fine.

There is any procedure I must do when I move my location to far so the GPS does not stop to work?

I hope some one can give me a clue.

Thanks Guys,

Jader Leite

Not heard of that before. It can take longer to “get lock” as it may have a load a new almanac. See

But stopping completely. I’ve not heard of that.

Thanks, Grant.

Hi Grant,

I am a GNSS specialist and I understand well how GPS work. The behavior was as follow:

1- Turn AutoPilot on. I heard all beeps from Autopilot, them the Blue light come on solid.
2- After a few seconds the Light go Green Solid. Same time GPS blue light blink.
3- After one second it goes back to Blue Solid again. At same time GPS blue light stop to blink.

I did this process many times and same situation wasrepeated.

I will try to make a few more test and try to find out why does it happen. If I find it out I will let you know.

Thanks,

Jader

Grant,

For the boat control, what would be the best controller that I should use. Currently I am using the HK32Pilot, but may be there is a better option. What do you recommend?

Jader

I’d contact your hardware manufacturer and see if they can help. It is very odd behaviour.

Thanks, Grant.

The latest is obviously a Pixhawk 2.1. Out of stock just at the moment but should be available again in the next week or so. That and a HERE GPS. That’s the gold standard at the moment as they are the newest.

Thanks, Grant.

@J.Leite Couple of questions:
What firmware version are you running?
What GPS module do you have?
What are all your GPS parameters?
And do the GPS LED’s indicate that it has fix?

Except for the last one the first 3 can all be answered by a dataflash log that is logging while disarmed.

@gmorph,
Shouldn’t this thread be posted in the “Hardware” sub forum and not the ArduBoat sub forum?

Yes your probably right Tom. I’ll move it now.

Thanks, Grant.
