For some reason i am not able to go higher than 100m altitude in loiter no matter what
google-ing did not reveal the problem. Is there some hidden parameter that i am missing ?

Yes, there was a bug in -rc1. It’s enforcing the altitude fence even if the fence is disabled. This is fixed in -rc2. Thanks for the report!
